Our New Place

Yes this is what they call a kitchen. 2 burners only---1 problem they only work on HIGH. When I cook I have to stand there and turn the burner off and on. So much fun.
You notice there is no oven. I mentioned how much I missed cornbread to a lady staying in complex. She had never heard of cornbread. Poor lady--deprived and didn't know it.

The living room is big. One of the cleaning ladies told me this was new furniture. The couch makes out to a double bed, so come visit, we have a place for you to sleep.

At home we have a handicap commode, it is so high the tips of my big toes touch the floor. I have not got adjusted to this one. Every time I sit, I have the feeling that I have missed and falling to the floor.

The bedroom is bigger than at home. The closet goes the full width of the room. Too bad we don't have that many clothes.

This view is so pretty when it snows. The mountains (foothills) glisten in the sun.

This view is prettier in the snow also. There is a dog in one of the yards. When we 1st arrived, he would bark, Bou would sit below the window and bark back at him.

We looked at another place last weekend. Only queen size beds...Too much togetherness. Had a dishwasher, now--why do you need a dishwasher when you only have 3 place settings. NO oven---still can't cook cornbread or biscuits. All I was asking for was an oven.

Today Danny, 1 of the maintenance men, spent 2 hours working on problems.
1. We will be able to control the heat!!!(HAHA) Heat is furnished by hot water pipes running along the baseboard. The thermostat on the wall is a joke, if you turn on the a/c to cool off---that makes the furnace cut on. Fighting a loosing battle. 3rd time they have worked on it. Maybe???
2. Replaced parts on the burners, so now I can cook without the on/off action.
3. The refrigerator made a loud rattle every time it turns off---it was quiet for awhile.
They have been good to me. I report problems, they fix them. Whoever gets this apartment when we leave will have no problems.
Remember Danny in your prayers. He is a young Christian who comes from a Buddhist background. He takes his step children to church while Mom stays home. Stan, the manager, is a minister from TN who doesn't mind answering his questions.

Uncle Rodney & Aunt Bonnie's Home
When you are looking for Exit 282, and start seeing Exit 2, you have made the wrong turn. We did good, found a road that would drop us on the right road and started looking for Exit 282 again.

-----THREE GENERATIONS-----
--Bonnie---Brittanie---Micki Lynn--

-----Bonnie---Brittanie-----

-----Wayne---Rodney-----

-----Brittanie---Micki Lynn-----

We had a great visit.
Brittanie was visiting from college for the weekend. Micki Lynn has an interesting job. She is going to start hunting mountain lions that roam her property. The bears are okay?????

Wayne's GPS (me) did a better job going back. Made it without making any wrong turns.

Snow In Denver
The snow is so light and fluffy.
It's beautiful.
Boudreaux and I like it better from the inside looking out.
We do not like the cold.

Wayne doesn't like driving the Mustang on the ice. Rear wheel drive makes it hard, you 'fish-tail' too easily. The 180# of sand in the trunk makes for better traction.

It's getting scary, our car is beginning to look like a "native Coloradoan" --- DIRTY. When it snows the streets are covered with 'ice melt', then sand, so the roads are filty. That makes the cars DIRTY.

*****BUT THE SNOW IS PRETTY*****

*****It is pretty*****

Trip to Denver
First let me thank all of yall for your prayers. We had some scares on the road, but Jesus had us in His hands.

Rylee is cured of the RSV, doctor says she has the immunities in her body and will not catch again. She and Mom were going crazy being stuck at home. Marlee is at home and doing fine. Deb, my sister, had a scope done on her knee. Everything looks good. There is a question on the ‘’knee joints’’, some are being recalled. Hoping the scope procedure took care of any future problems.

Thursday night we packed the Mustang, all our bags fit. Wayne said it couldn't be done. HAHA Folded most of our clothes and put in trash bags to take up less room. Wayne filled the trunk and slammed it shut. The lock is strong, did not spring open while we were going down the road.

Friday, January 28, 2011

We left Friday AM about 6:45. Wayne asked if we were crazy? Y/N I text and ask the family, Wayne’s Uncle Gene wrote back NO. He later called us to say NO we were not crazy, he moved from LA to TX for a job. At the age of 70 he applied for a job in Iraq/Iran. You are never too old to try new things.

We were so tired we kept punching each other on the shoulder to stay awake. We had a hard week. Wayne got 3 calls Monday from the headhunters, then talked to Gordon, Supervisor in Denver at 6:30 pm. He had a job and would start on Monday, January 31, could not be postponed. I was going to stay in LA to get things taken care of and then fly up later. That night I decided, what wasn’t finished could wait 4 months.

Between doctor appts, bringing and picking up the g-babies, Boudreaux’s beauty parlor appt, the Mustang being in the shop for 1 ½ days and packing, we were busy.

Started seeing snow along the fence rows in North OK. That is when Larkin, our 9 year old granddaughter, got mad at us. We did not bring her, she wanted to play in the snow. She was going to walk, but decided it was too far. Her second plan---she’s buying bubble wrap next time she goes to the store, wrapping herself up, getting in a box with snacks and her dog, BooBoo, and mailing herself to us in CO.

In OK we saw black cows in the pasture, in KS the cows were white. Texting Chell about the next color we would find---she said “polka dot”. Well she was not “polka dot”, I would call her a "patch work"-black and white. When we got on the west side of KS we found pastures with STRANGE things in them.

One pasture had a tumbleweed rolling through it. Only saw them on television, in old westerns.

Sunday, January 30, 2011

This was a welcome site. 25 hours to get here. We were ready to get out and relax. But that was not to be, we were told in Baton Rouge the antifreeze in the Mustang was good to 10 degrees. Forecast was for BAD weather. Wayne and Ed had it rechecked, it was good to -22. The 1st week we were here was the worse in a decade. One night got down to -17, record was -18. Came close, but no new record. You know you are in trouble when you look out the window and your red car is now covered in white snow. (Mustang is the second car on right)

Wayne checks each morning to see if it is "white again". Most mornings have been white.
We are told that this is not normal. Have snow, but skies are clear and beautiful blue. You do know, this bad weather is our fault---we get here Sunday, this weather starts Monday.

This is our neighbor, HOOTERS. Ed told Wayne about this restaurant before we left Baton Rouge.
It is a man thing. Tonight Wayne is taking Ed to supper, Ed leaves Wednesday for South Carolina, by way of Baton Rouge. Will be at work Tuesday morning. Wayne thought we were crazy!!!

Again thank you for your prayers and letters of encouragement. Long drive, but Wayne is enjoying the work. Not looking forward to driving in this "pretty" snow and ice.

I keep asking myself---Why are we here???---On, yeah, A JOB!!!!!

A Visit With Craig, Chell, Collin & Larkin
Craig, Michelle, Collin and Larkin live back off the road. When we drove down the driveway their 3 dogs come out barking and welcoming us. Coming up behind the dogs was their 3 sheep---yes, sheep running down the driveway welcoming us. **You wish you had someone as excited to see you come to visit** You notice I said the animals were excited, Craig and Michelle were in the house in their recliners.

We arrived in time to watch the babies get off the school bus.
Collin is in the 9th grade. His high school was closed by the school board this summer. He rides the bus with Larkin to the old school, then gets on another bus to ride 30 minutes to Farmerville High School. This year 3 high schools were closed and consolidated into 1. More high schools will be closed next summer and put into Farmerville High School.

There are no dress restrictions at the new high school. Notice no uniform, caps allowed, longer hair and the "jelly bracelets".

Larkin is still at the old school, Spearsville Elementary and Junior High. She wears uniforms. Her school is dismissed 30 minutes before the high school bus arrives, the children stay in their classrooms to do homework.

Their school bus comes at 6:45 am, they are back home at 4:30 pm. Longer days, but shorter weeks. They are off every Monday.

*****THE CRENSHAW'S PRETTY COWS*****

This is the Crenshaw's "pretty cows". They are pretty because their ears are so "big". That is according to Michelle. The cows are on a friend's pasture, every day Michelle goes over to feed and "talk" to the cows. (((Wayne says they are "bovine", Michelle says they are "heifers".))) Whatever!!!

*****DAVID'S PRETTY COWS*****

We made 3 trips to this guy's house to see his "pretty cows". Again the BIG ears. Its true, beauty is all in the eye of the beholder. Have you ever seen a cow with "tiger stripes", David has a cow that is off-white, with darker stripes. Of course, she was camera shy.

*****LARKIN AND SUNSET*****

Larkin is taking horseback riding lessons. Miss Cindy lives across the road from them. Miss Cindy believes in learning to ride bareback first, this way Larkin will learn to "balance", then teach her to ride with a saddle.
Larkin is so excited about riding. She has to put on her skinny jeans, boots, cowgirl hat, cowgirl belt and her make-up. Miss Cindy and Mary surprised Larkin with new cowgirl boots for her birthday.

*****PAWPAW WAYNE & LARKIN*****

Larkin got her Pawpaw to play Farmopoly with her. Like the original Monopoly, but with farms. You see who is in charge of the bank, and you can guess who won. Pawpaw had a good time letting her teach him.

*****COLLIN HORSEBACK RIDING*****

Miss Cindy didn't believe Collin when he said he could ride. She had never seen him ride, but he has been riding since he was a "little tike". His dad's sister had horses and taught him how.
After Wayne and I left, they got out Beau, a 2 year old, for Collin. His job is to finish breaking Beau.

*****COLLIN PREPARING SUPPER*****

Collin started Friday night for Sunday night's supper. He fixed steaks, ribs and tipilia. No that is not MUD, well if it was it sure tasted GOOD. He put on this rub and let the meat sit until he was ready to cook.
Collin and Craig did the outside cooking and Chell took care of the vegetables. They have got it down...It was delicious!!!

*****GUN PRACTICE*****

I asked to shoot the guns. They didn't tell me how loud they would be. I had my ears plugged most of the time.
The pistol is only accurate at 5 feet---I'm in trouble. If someone breaks into the house, I will ask them to stop and wait while I get the pistol and the bullets, load the gun and then let me get the yard stick and meassure 5 feet. I'm in trouble!!!
The shotgun had a "kick". Of course, they don't tell me that. The camera battery was low (thank you), they did not get my expression after I shot.
They made sure the cows were not behind the target---think they didn't trust me. BUT I did hit the target---well, at least I was close. Point the shotgun in the "general direction" and you hit it ALL.

*****ROLLER COASTER*****

Friday night when we got there. Michelle had to go give Mike a message. He was on the 300+/- acres next door to them mowing grass. Sunday afternoon they were going to bail hay. Since Mike was across the pasture and there was NO road, Michelle made her own, through the middle of the pasture.
Have you ever been on a roller coaster and not be able to see the track in front of you. You were not able to anticipate the next THRILL.
The grass was as tall as the truck fender, could not see where we were going, but that did not stop Michelle, oh-no not my Michelle. I was glad I had put on my seatbelt---they not only stop you from going forward into the dash---but also, kept you in your seat and off the roof.
I was yelling and she was laughing at her mother. Is that allowed???
There is never a dull moment.
