Craig had to go to Oklahoma for a week of classes. I went to visit Michelle and the kids. Michelle was suppose to be taking it easy, she had her gall bladder removed two weeks before.
I had to meet Michelle and the kids at Ms. Mary's. Michelle and Collin were helping Mr. Mike work his cows. Larkin and I were shut-up in a corral because one of the cows might attack us. A great way to start my visit, hiding from cows.
Collin's Basketball Game
Collin has a new basketball coach this year. The younger players, including Collin, practiced with the girls team 3:30 to 5:30, and practiced with the boys team 5:30 to 7:30. Then sit the bench (or chairs), never got to play in a game. You can tell from his pictures he is not happy. This was his last game. He asked to quit and get ready for baseball.
AFTER SCHOOL CHORES BEGIN
Every day the animals have to be taken care of, feed, water and given medication. Collin and Larkin each have a calf, Collin's has a bottle twice a day.
Michelle is treating one of the cows by putting medication in her food. That is why she is carrying a stick that is as long as she is tall. But it gets the job done.
Larkin feeds the cows. Each one is allowed to have a certain amount of feed. She makes sure they get only what is theirs.
Never been to Michelle's house that we did not go 'dumpster diving'. They need another hobby. (haha) That is the "in thing" in that part of the country. This time we left something, green carpet the puppies could not tell the difference between green grass and green carpet, so they ripped the carpet up to put down a wood floor. You see Larkin was really excited about "dumpster diving" that day. She was watching a movie and did not want to be disturbed.
When it gets dark the work inside begins. Supper is around 9 (I'm ready for bed by that time) & homework. They have three chiahuahuas, Cujo, BooBoo & Cleopatra. BooBoo is pregnant due before Christmas. Larkin felt a puppy move, she was so excited.
Michelle told me this week she has 200 eggs in an incubator. They have had chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys & pheasants before. Found out too late that the city water was killing the birds, too much chlorine. This time they will use the well water.
This is a small tractor compared to what Collin usually uses. Mr. Mike hires Collin to work with him. They work the cows & mow, rake and bale hay. Collin loves doing that kind of work.
Every day this has to be done. You have to really love animals.
-----SPOOKY-----
This is what we found one morning when we took the kids to school. The ground was covered with ice from a heavy frost. The cows look like white and dark chocolate chips in the "white" pasture. It's not Halloween yet but the warm pond and cold air made it look so spooky.
I know there are different hunting seasons, such as deer, squirrel, etc. But when did the "road sign" season begin.
TRICK OR TREAT
We started our scary night with pizza at Pizza Hut in Farmerville. We went trick or treating at 3 homes, but came back with our bags full. Country people don't hold back.
Larkin wore red glittery shoes, wings and skirt. Collin, Michelle and I went as ourselves. Collin said he was too old to dress-up. Same for Michelle and me.
You notice that my chore was behind the camera, I made sure I had it in my hands all the time. I was afraid they might give me feed for one of those animals. If they eat, they have teeth, I love my toes and my nose kept picking up strange smells. I kept checking my shoes to be sure I was not bringing the "farm" into the house. I am not the farm girl type.
I was glad to get back to BR and my "dull, quiet and slow life". There is no "down time" in Spearsville. Something or someone always needs you "to do" for them. They love living there and they love their animals.
Every time we visit we are surprised by something new. Reminds me of going to my grandmothers when I was young. She always had baby animals.
Enjoyed the visit.
